Shamsuddin A Shaikh

Shamsuddin A Shaikh has an extensive career, in planning, developing & executing Mega Industrial projects in the Mining, Energy, FMCG, Fertilizer & Chemicals business. During his 35+ years of experience, he has held key leadership positions in manufacturing, sales, commercial & supply chain function. Bulk of his experience has been with Engro Corp where his most eminent achievement was unearthing Lignite Thar Coal for power & energy and other industrial applications. He single-mindedly and with great humility made Pakistan’s Thar Coal into a reality which was constantly being missed by all other campaigners for decades. The $ 2 Bn+ Thar project is considered as the largest investment undertaken by Pakistan in the Energy sector. Shams served as a catalyst for Thar, as an additional $ 6 Bn of investment followed once he was successful in mining Thar Coal proving its viability for power generation from establishing Pakistan’s first lignite based utility scale power plant. He is a strong proponent of maximizing Social development through sustainable initiatives, for which he initiated Thar Foundation – a Not-for-profit Organization aimed at improving the socio-economic profile of Thar. He previously also served as the Chairman of Amantech, a not-for-profit vocational centre. After taking early retirement from Engro – he decided to venture into another dream project for Pakistan. The RekoDiq gold & copper project at Chagai, Balochistan. A project of much bigger magnitude & significance; much more challenging than Thar. He believes that Pakistani companies can work together successfully to take any challenges that is thrown at them. Post resolution of RekoDiq dispute he formed another company namely National Resources Limited with the help of three Pakistani conglomerates to explore mineral wealth of balochistan for the benefit of indigenous population as well as the country. Shams has a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and masters in engineering & MBA from Colorado State University.
