Abdul Aziz Memon
Abdul Aziz Memon is a Chemical Engineer by profession and a dedicated Social Activist with over 17 years of experience working at the grassroots level in Sindh. My work is rooted in a deep commitment to public service, disaster management, women’s empowerment, education and highlighting the developmental challenges of my homeland, Thatta, and the broader Sindh province. Key Achievements & Contributions: Flood Relief & Rehabilitation (2010): Played a key leadership role in organizing and executing relief activities for the communities devastated by the 2010 floods in Thatta. I worked on the ground to coordinate the delivery of aid, shelter, and medical assistance to thousands of affected families during one of the worst natural disasters in the country’s history. Mobilization for Women’s Empowerment (BISP): Successfully mobilized and organized over 25,000 women beneficiaries from the district for the national launch event of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Waseela-e-Taleem initiative. This event was held at Makli Stadium, Thatta, and was graced by the then-President of Pakistan, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain. My efforts ensured massive female participation, showcasing the program’s reach in promoting education among underprivileged children. Educational Empowerment & International Scholarships: Successfully identified and facilitated the selection of 15 deserving students from the rural areas of Thatta, sending them to China on fully-funded scholarships for five years to study the Chinese language. This initiative has opened doors of opportunity for talented youth from underprivileged backgrounds, enabling them to gain international exposure and acquire valuable linguistic skills for their future careers. Social Activism & Advocacy (17+ Years):For nearly two decades, I have been actively highlighting critical issues affecting the people of Sindh, with a special focus on Thatta. My advocacy covers a wide range of issues, including public health, education, infrastructure, and most importantly, water rights and environmental justice for the Indus Delta region. I have participated in and organized numerous peaceful protests and awareness campaigns. Notably, on the International Day of Action for Rivers (March 2025), I joined workers and leaders at the Thatta-Sujawal Bridge to protest against water diversions and corporate farming policies that threaten the livelihood and existence of the people of Sindh. My mission is to continue bridging the gap between professional expertise and social responsibility, working tirelessly for the sustainable development and rights of the marginalized communities in Sindh.
